Signs You Need Furnace Repair in Blaine

Recognizing the warning signs of furnace problems will help homeowners address issues before they become full-blown emergencies. Look out for these warning signs that you need furnace repair services in Blaine:

  • Unusual sounds: Your furnace should make a bit of mechanical noise, but it shouldn’t sound like a factory. Any banging, clanking, grinding, or hissing noises call for professional repairs.
  • Strange smells: Burning smells may indicate electrical issues, while mildew or musty smells might signify mold growth.
  • Uneven heating: If you notice cold spots in your home, have a Dean’s technician inspect your furnace.
  • Rising energy bills: High energy bills without increased heating usage often signal declining furnace efficiency.
  • Yellow or flickering flames in gas models: A healthy furnace has a blue flame. Yellow could mean combustion issues that generate carbon monoxide.
  • Poor air quality: This suggests your furnace isn’t circulating and filtering air properly.

Blaine Emergency Furnace Repair

If your furnace breaks down in the middle of the night during a cold snap, Dean’s offers quick and reliable emergency furnace repairs in Blaine. Call our 24-hour dispatch, and we will send out a technician with a fully stocked truck, full of tools and replacement parts, to resolve the issue on the first visit.

This is what qualifies as an emergency:

  • Your furnace is not running during periods of extreme cold.
  • Your furnace is smoking and smells like it’s burning.
  • Your furnace smells like rotten eggs (a sign of a gas leak).
  • Your carbon monoxide alarm has gone off.

Furnace Repair vs. Furnace Replacement

One of the most common questions we hear from Blaine homeowners is whether they should repair or replace their furnace. This decision depends on several factors, and our technicians will give you honest guidance based on your specific situation.

Age is a big one — if your unit is approaching its 15- to 20-year lifespan, it makes more financial sense to replace it. Minor fixes like thermostat issues, clogged filters, or worn belts are straightforward repair decisions. However, when major component failures occur, like cracked heat exchangers, failed compressors, or complete motor failures, it may make more sense to get a new unit.

If you are facing repairs on an older unit that add up to 50% of the cost of a new furnace, it also makes sense to get a new one. Modern furnaces are also way more efficient than older models. This adds up to more energy savings that will pay for themselves in a few short years.

Common Furnace Problems

As a licensed furnace repair company in Blaine, there are some common furnace problems we are constantly fixing:

  • Dirty air filters: These clogged filters restrict airflow, forcing your furnace to work harder.
  • Thermostat malfunctions: Dead batteries, incorrect settings, or wiring problems can all prevent your furnace from operating properly.
  • Pilot light and ignition problems: Older pilot lights can fail due to dirt buildup, wear and tear, or thermocouple issues.
  • Blower motor issues: These lead to a lack of air circulation throughout your home,  insufficient heating, and even no heat while your furnace is running.
  • Furnace belt wear: Furnace belts can crack, stretch, or break over time, while bearings may need lubrication during maintenance tune-ups.

Common Furnace Brands and Systems

Dean’s Home Services technicians are experienced with all major manufacturers. Carrier, Lennox, Trane, and Bryant are among the industry’s most reliable brands, known for durability and performance during our harsh Minnesota winters.

Natural gas furnaces are popular in Blaine due to the availability and cost-effectiveness of natural gas. High-efficiency systems, with a 90%+ AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating, are increasingly popular among homeowners looking to reduce their energy costs.

Professional vs. DIY Furnace Repairs

Think of your furnace like your car — you wouldn’t want to work on a crucial part like the timing belt without knowing exactly what you are doing. The same goes for furnaces. There are a few DIY furnace repairs and preventive measures homeowners take, but most issues require a professional touch.

Safe DIY furnace fixes:

  • Replacing your air filters (do this every one to three years)
  • Checking thermostat batteries and replacing them when needed
  • Making sure furnace vents aren’t blocked
  • Periodically cleaning the indoor and outdoor units of dust and debris

All of these tasks are the best way to prevent costly furnace repairs. Also, schedule annual furnace maintenance with Dean’s.

It’s important to note that most DIY finance repairs will also void manufacturers’ warranties.

Tasks for a Dean’s furnace technician:

  • Any repair requiring work with the gas line or connections
  • Any repair work on the electrical panel
  • Any major part replacement
  • Any furnace performance diagnostic

Customer Satisfaction is our #1 Priority What Dean’s Customers are saying
I recently bought a new house and quite a few things needed upgrading / replacing. Deans has done fantastic work on all these things. Scheduling is fast and easy. They are able to come out quickly to assess it and give an estimate. And they can quickly schedule the service. All the technicians have been fantastic. Friendly, and quick and efficient. I am so glad I am a member and I will recommend Deans to anyone. Mark B.
Matthew came for a general plumbing inspection. He was friendly and polite and even a little bit early for his appointment. That is a wonderful thing. He checked all the toilets and sinks, the water heater and water softener. All the while explaining what he was doing. He had some ideas on a few repairs but wasn't an alarmist about it. Things that just had to be done, sooner than later, but not immediately. The Dean's club membership is definitely worth it. Susan M.
Eric B was awesome and informative. Today he came and gave us a rundown of our new homes air ventilation and Furnace/AC systems so we are all ready for winter and beyond. We had Dean's install a new furnace, ac and water heater at our previous home and they did such a wonderful job and so easy to work with we will only use them from now on. Thanks again for a wonderful experience. Jayme K.
I had Dean's come out a couple times for different services. Once to install venting for a bath fan and once for service for my furnace. There were no surprises in pricing and service was quick. Sam was the tech both times and he did a great job for both jobs. For the furnace, he diagnosed the issue within minutes of starting the work and got it up and running quickly. They had all the parts in the truck already. As far as the appointment, I requested service online, had a call back within 15 min and the tech was in my driveway an hour later. I would highly recommend Dean's. Dan P.
Of the several electricians I contacted, Dean's offered by far the quickest dispatch time, which is great because my thermostat broke and wouldn't start my A/C at all. Given that temperatures are supposed to reach 98 degrees tomorrow, time was of the essence. Thankfully, Dean's had someone out within an hour. I worked with Seth, who was professional, helpful and knowledgeable. He ran a 'C' wire to our new smart thermostat and got it installed in about an hour at a reasonable price. I will definitely recommend Dean's to anyone who needs an electrician. Michael Y.
