Is My Plumbing Haunted? Fixes For Plumbing Problems

Spooky Plumbing Problems? Call Dean’s Plumbers

You’re having a perfectly fine day, and then you flush your toilet and all you hear is a loud banging noise. Or maybe you’re in the shower and all of a sudden, water starts coming out of the faucet. This is not only inconvenient; it can be downright scary! Fortunately, these spooky plumbing problems have solutions that are simple enough for even non-plumbers like you or me to handle ourselves—or at least hire someone else who knows what they’re doing.

Haunted House with Plumbing Problems

Clogged toilets

If you have a clogged toilet, there are several ways to clear it. You can try plunging with a plunger and see if that works. If that doesn’t fix your clog, try this hack to fix a clogged toilet.

  1. Put on rubber gloves (if possible).
  2. Turn off the water supply valve at your home’s main water valve to prevent flooding if necessary.
  3. Flush the toilet again and add one cup of salt into the bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes before refilling with fresh water from your sink faucet until it covers most of the bottom of your toilet bowl; then flush again

If this doesn’t work, Dean’s Home Services Minneapolis St. Paul Professional drain cleaners are experts in fixing clogs in your home.

Clogged sinks

If you have clogged sinks, there are several ways to solve the problem.

  • Use a plunger: A plunger is one of the most common tools for unclogging sinks. Place it over the drain and pump it up and down vigorously until water flows from the sink again. If that doesn’t work, try using a snake (see below).
  • DIY Clogged Sink Repair
  1. Start by pouring a pot of boiling water down the drain.
  2. Next, pour a cup of baking soda and 1 cup water/1 cup vinegar solution.
  3. Cover with the drain plug and wait 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Pour boiling water down the drain again.

Toilet Won’t Flush

If your toilet won’t flush, check the handle. Make sure it is in the up position and not broken. If it’s up but still won’t flush, try flushing with just the handle a few times to see if that fixes it.

Toilet chain

If that doesn’t help, check the chain (if there is one). Make sure this isn’t tangled or stuck under something else either.

If you’re still stuck, check whether anything is jammed into your ballcock assembly (the thing that connects your water supply line to your toilet tank). This could happen if someone has been playing around with things and perhaps forgot about their toys being inside of them!

Toilet Won’t Stop Running

If your toilet is running but not filling up, it means that the water level in the tank is too high. This could be due to a faulty float or an overflowing bowl. If that’s not the case and you’re still experiencing this problem, there may be a leak somewhere in your plumbing system. If this is what’s happening, you’ll want to check for discolored grout around the base of floor pipes and sinks as well as water stains on ceilings and walls near toilets. You might also notice wet patches on floors or other surfaces if there are holes in pipes under them.

Reasons why your toilet might overflow include:

  • A clogged bowl or drain line
  • Too much water in tank (overfilling)
  • Faulty fill valve or shutoff arm

Shower flooding the bathroom

If your bathroom shower is flooding the bathroom it’s most likely because of a clogged drain. The shower drain is the most common culprit of all, so begin with it. If you see any visible buildup in the pipe, use a plunger or hair trap to clear it out. If this doesn’t work, try using a metal coat hanger to clear out or one of the DIY solutions above. If you spend more than 10 minutes or you notice it getting worse, it’s most likely time to call a professional Drain Cleaner.

Check for a leaky shower head or faucet: Sometimes these small fixes can make all the difference in your bathroom’s water pressure and prevent flooding altogether. Even if your plumbing problem isn’t big enough to cause major damage, it still might be worth fixing sooner rather than later since leaks like this tend to worsen over time until they become full-blown floods (or worse).
