Signs You Need Furnace Repair in Edina

If your furnace is experiencing ongoing performance issues, it’s time to call a furnace repair company in Edina that can diagnose and resolve the problem. If your system is doing any of the following, schedule furnace repair services right away:

  • Strange noises: If you hear grinding, clanking, hissing, screeching, or other unusual sounds, your furnace may need professional repair.
  • Strange smells: Burning smells indicate electrical issues, and musty smells indicate mold growth
  • Low airflow: Your furnace should deliver a steady flow of heat in each room. If it doesn’t, it has an airflow problem.
  • Leaking water: Your condensate line can become clogged with debris or freeze during extreme cold. This causes water to drip from the line.
  • Uneven heating: If one room is toasty while another is cool, there could be several reasons, such as ductwork leaks or a faulty thermostat.
  • Edina Emergency Furnace Repair

Some furnace issues are considered emergencies, and Dean’s will treat them as such. Call our 24-hour emergency furnace repair in Edina dispatch service if any of these happen:

  • Your furnace is smoking: Turn off the unit, open windows to ventilate the room, and call Dean’s Home Services.
  • You smell rotten eggs: This indicates a serious gas leak that requires repair.
  • Your carbon monoxide alarm sounds: Elevated carbon monoxide levels have been detected. Leave your home immediately, go outside, and call emergency services or your HVAC provider to inspect the source before re-entering.
  • Your furnace isn’t producing heat: This is an immediate concern if temperatures outside are in the single digits or below zero.

If you experience any of these issues, call Dean’s, and we will do everything possible to provide same-day furnace repair in Edina.

Furnace Repair vs. Furnace Replacement

Furnace repairs are less expensive than a full replacement, but if your unit is older, it may be more cost-effective to upgrade to a newer, more efficient model. Furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years, so if your unit is in or approaching that age range and has required frequent repairs in the last few years, it’s time to upgrade. Always rely on the 50% rule. If repairs to an older unit cost half as much as a new one, it makes more sense to replace it. Newer units are often way more efficient than older models, so you can expect your heating bills to go down.

Common Furnace Problems

Dean’s Home Services has seen just about every furnace problem there is, but there are a few common ones we run into:

  • Dirty and clogged air filters
  • Dirty or loose flame sensors
  • Thermostat malfunctions
  • Ignition issues
  • Tripped breakers from furnace overheating
  • Noisy interior belts

We recommend scheduling an annual furnace maintenance service with us to catch minor issues before they become significant problems for the unit and your wallet.

Common Furnace Brands and Systems

Homeowners looking to upgrade to a new furnace should be aware of a few key considerations. The first is the top furnace brands. Consider manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, Bryant, and Lennox, and look for an Energy Star rating to confirm the unit meets high-efficiency standards.

It’s also beneficial to understand that the AFUE, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency rating, is the way to measure a furnace’s energy output. High-efficiency models are 97% or higher, meaning they convert 97% of their fuel into heat.

The last factor to know is the types of furnaces. Dean’s specializes in single- and two-stage furnaces. Single-stage furnaces are the less costly option, but they only work as all-or-nothing units at 100% capacity. Two-stage furnaces are pricier but more efficient because they have low and high settings that adjust capacity based on the energy required to heat your home.

Professional vs. DIY Furnace Repairs

Furnace repairs require the same level of care and expertise as any complex mechanical system. To keep your system running safely and efficiently, it’s best to rely on a trained professional who understands how all the components work together. A licensed technician should always handle any work involving gas lines, electrical wiring, or major components.

However, as a homeowner, you can do a few things yourself. Change out your air filters regularly (every one to three months), change the thermostat batteries yearly, and keep any clutter and dust away from your air vents and the unit itself.

Stay Toasty With Dean’s Furnace Repairs

Now that you know the signs your furnace needs repairs, it’s important to schedule them promptly before they become major headaches. If you need emergency repairs, maintenance, or furnace replacement services, call Dean’s Home Services. We’re ready to help.

FAQ: Edina Furnace Repair Services

How much does furnace repair cost in Edina?

The cost of furnace repairs in Edina ranges from a few hundred to thousands of dollars.  For example, a simple filter replacement is way cheaper than repairing a flame sensor.

Why is my furnace running but not heating?

Your furnace could be running but not heating due to ignition problems or restricted airflow. Occasionally, the ignition system fails to ignite and requires replacement.

What is the most expensive part to fix on a furnace?

The most expensive part to fix or replace in a furnace is the heat exchanger. This critical component converts the fuel into heat and prevents carbon monoxide from entering the breathable air.

Why is my furnace making strange or loud noises?

Your furnace may be making loud noises due to loose parts rattling inside. Air escaping from a clogged air filter could also be causing the noise.

Why isn’t my furnace producing heat?

If your furnace isn’t producing heat, check your thermostat settings and ensure it’s set to “heat” and “auto.” Next, check your air filter. If the problem persists, call Dean’s.

Why does my furnace keep turning on and off (short cycling)?

If your furnace is turning on and off without completing a full cycle, it could be due to restricted air flow. Your furnace may be undersized, so it should be assessed by a professional.

Customer Satisfaction is our #1 Priority What Dean’s Customers are saying
I recently bought a new house and quite a few things needed upgrading / replacing. Deans has done fantastic work on all these things. Scheduling is fast and easy. They are able to come out quickly to assess it and give an estimate. And they can quickly schedule the service. All the technicians have been fantastic. Friendly, and quick and efficient. I am so glad I am a member and I will recommend Deans to anyone. Mark B.
Matthew came for a general plumbing inspection. He was friendly and polite and even a little bit early for his appointment. That is a wonderful thing. He checked all the toilets and sinks, the water heater and water softener. All the while explaining what he was doing. He had some ideas on a few repairs but wasn't an alarmist about it. Things that just had to be done, sooner than later, but not immediately. The Dean's club membership is definitely worth it. Susan M.
Eric B was awesome and informative. Today he came and gave us a rundown of our new homes air ventilation and Furnace/AC systems so we are all ready for winter and beyond. We had Dean's install a new furnace, ac and water heater at our previous home and they did such a wonderful job and so easy to work with we will only use them from now on. Thanks again for a wonderful experience. Jayme K.
I had Dean's come out a couple times for different services. Once to install venting for a bath fan and once for service for my furnace. There were no surprises in pricing and service was quick. Sam was the tech both times and he did a great job for both jobs. For the furnace, he diagnosed the issue within minutes of starting the work and got it up and running quickly. They had all the parts in the truck already. As far as the appointment, I requested service online, had a call back within 15 min and the tech was in my driveway an hour later. I would highly recommend Dean's. Dan P.
Of the several electricians I contacted, Dean's offered by far the quickest dispatch time, which is great because my thermostat broke and wouldn't start my A/C at all. Given that temperatures are supposed to reach 98 degrees tomorrow, time was of the essence. Thankfully, Dean's had someone out within an hour. I worked with Seth, who was professional, helpful and knowledgeable. He ran a 'C' wire to our new smart thermostat and got it installed in about an hour at a reasonable price. I will definitely recommend Dean's to anyone who needs an electrician. Michael Y.
