Plumbing Tips for the First Day of Summer
It’s the first day of summer!
Summer is the season of swimming pools, BBQs, gardening, and trips to the park. No matter how you plan on spending your summer here in Minneapolis, you want to make sure that your home plumbing system is running smoothly all season long. Here are a few tips to help you prevent plumbing mishaps this summer.
Plumbing Tips for Summer:
- Prep For Your Summer Getaways – Before leaving for your summer vacation, be sure to turn off the main water valve to your home. In the event there is a plumbing problem, like a leaky pipe, while you are away, turning off your main water valve will prevent flooding.
- Check Your Garden Hoses – Planning on filling up a swimming pool or watering your garden? Be sure to check your garden hose and hose bib for cracks. These leaks can add up to significant water costs if not caught early on.
- Watch What You Put in Your Garbage Disposal – Many BBQ foods can’t be put down your garbage disposal. Any BBQ food with a bone can damage the disposal blade. Starchy foods like pasta and potato salad can expand and clog the drains. Be sure to throw these foods in the trash, rather than down your disposal.
- Install a Hot/Cold Hose – Running warm water through your gardening hose can help make it easier to bathe pets outdoors! Keep dirt outside by hosing down your pets and letting them dry off before heading back indoors.
