What Shouldn’t Go In Your Toilet

There are few experiences more terrifying than watching the water rise when you flush the toilet bowl. And while this is every homeowner’s nightmare, it is also a common plumbing problem. Fortunately, when you know what you can and cannot flush down your toilet, you can help prevent toilet clogs in your own bathroom. Make sure that you keep these items out of your toilet bowl.

Keep These Items Out of Your Toilet:

  • “Flushable” Wipes – Although they may be called “flushable,” these wipes do not break down in the same way toilet paper does in your drains. This means that the wipes can become stuck in your pipes and unable to disintegrate, causing a clog.
  • Cotton Balls – Although tiny in size,
  • Paper Towels – Like flushable wipes, paper towels do not break down as well as toilet paper in water.
  • Floss – This small stringy dental essential can wrap itself around other materials in your drain, causing a buildup and a clog in your drain.
  • Cat Litter – Your toilet is the perfect place for human waste, but not for your cat’s waste. Cat litter will clog your drain.
  • Diapers – Diapers are very absorbent. When flushed down the drain, disposable diapers will expand and clog the drain. This is a particularly common plumbing problem — make sure you dispose of your diapers in the trash!

If you do run into any plumbing problems, with your toilet or otherwise, do not hesitate to reach out to our technicians here at Dean’s Professional Plumbing, Heating, Air & Drains. We are here to help you with all of your home plumbing needs!
