Common Household Problems That Can Lead to Mold Growth

Household leaks can be frustrating. They waste water and can lead to additional plumbing complications like staining, water damage and wear and tear — but did you know that plumbing leaks can also encourage mold growth? Any damp environment is a breeding ground for mold.

And there’s even more bad news — it doesn’t take much for mold to quickly spread throughout your home, leading to serious damage and health problems.

Here are a few of the most common plumbing problems that contribute to mold growth at home. Knowing what can lead to mold growth, can hopefully help you stop it before it spreads!

Common Problems That Lead to Mold Growth:

1. Leaky Pipes

If a pipe leaks inside of the walls of your home, you may be unaware of the hidden leak for a period of time. As a result, moisture may build near the leak and encourage mold growth.

2. Poor Ventilation

Proper ventilation is important in your kitchen and bathroom. These vents help remove steam after a hot shower or after cooking a hot meal on the stove. If not properly ventilated with an exhaust fan and ceiling fan, you may see mold growth in your bathroom or kitchen.

3. High Humidity Levels

Moisture buildup is common in humid environments. If you are seeing moisture build up on the windows and walls of your home, it’s important that you add a dehumidifier to your home to help eliminate the dampness and prevent mold growth.
