How would you like to save between 5% and 20% on your heating bills this winter? With temperatures on the decline and energy prices on the rise, staying warm can be a difficult and costly task this season. See below for a few winter time energy savings tips that will keep you comfortable and keep your wallet full:
- Cranking up the heat to stay warm is not your best option. Turn your thermostat down a few degrees because for every degree you lower your
heat, you’ll save up to 5% on heating costs. You may have to throw on an extra sweater but it will be worth it.
- When was the last time you cleaned or replaced your furnace’s filter? If you can’t remember, it’s probably time. Dirty filters restrict airflow and decrease the unit’s operating efficiency. Keeping your furnace properly cleaned and maintained will reduce its energy use and can save you an additional 5% on heating costs.
- Your water heater is probably set to a higher temperature than what is necessary. Most come with a factory preset temperature of 140 degrees, but you can lower it down to 120 without sacrificing a hot shower in the morning. Doing so will save you around 11% on water heating costs.
